Not been before. Staying in times Sq.
High line/ bikes in central park / 9/11 museums + other things on the agenda
Tavern on the green for dinner one night.
Recommendations for activities / meals please.......

Weather up and down like west ham in the late 80s early 90s
Poured down sunday. 74 degrees yesterday. Sheeting down now. 70 degrees tomorrow
Stratton island ferry, Brooklyn bridge and top of the rock yday were highlights.
Tavern on the green for a special dinner was very good
Ellen's stardust good fun.

Went out in Manhattan and Williamsburg and don't remember paying more than $7-8 a pint. It seemed to be usually $5 for Bud or Bud Light. I'm not too arsed about "local brews" and generally just picked whatever lager i noticed first.
You'd pay roughly the same in London if you went out in the west end and shoreditch.
My point is its not the bottomless money pit rip-off that people seem to make it out to be. I know people who whinge about paying €9 for a beer in Amsterdam. Same thing.

I mentioned MOMA ... and The Met. Both excellent
Maybe because the Knicks are shit but when I was there a couple of years back was able to walk up to the MSG box office a couple of days before and get decent seats.

See the thing is mate.... the vast majority on here that have ever been to New York have and will do the touristy trappy things as ...well... because they are touristy... we stayed in Queens...well off the beaten track.. we ate at a pub and another diner... I didn't go near the bud lite but the local brews were $9 + your tip... Manhattan was yeah right up there... over the water in Brooklyn drinking coney island brew was $10 for a small glass...and in the yankee stadium it was $13 for a stella...
Maybe I should have looked for somewhere that served bud lite..

Been twice both times mid December went with my best mate who's worked there and our tarts it's a great city but take plenty of wedge.
Loads to see and do,Benjamin's steakhouse is the bollocks,the best steak I've ever ever had.

Lived there in 91, upper east side new York. 97 and Park for Leon movie set. Walk up to 116 for spanish Harlem on lex, El Barrio. Football with the locals at the murphy centre on east river drive, short walk, most evenings Europeans verses Latins. Girls are pretty good too. Good bars in the neighbourhood. Otherwise do the rip off tourist thing. Yours...

$5-7 a pint of Bud Lite in most places. That's on par with London prices. In some bars comes with a chaser, so thats even cheaper than London.
Same with Amsterdam or Rome or just about any other tourist city, its only a rip-off if you go to shit tourist traps full of thick cunts.

I took the kids to see Aladdin in the West End with the Big Black/Blue Dude from Broadway playing the genie. he was brilliant, definately made the show.

We went to see Alladin when we was over there. The Genie actor then came over to the Alladin in the West End. Big black dude.

If you don't go to shows in London, then don't go to shows on Broadway. If you want to go and see something "live" try and get free tickets for the tonight show

If you like shows rather than go to Broadway go to Ellen's Stardust Diner. All the waiting staff are out of work Broadway performers who break out in to song every 10/15mins. Its a bit gay but the Mrs loved it and the atmosphere is very good. Be prepared to queue to get in though.

Broadway shows equivalent to London - not better or worse.
However, your advantage is you can walk to one from where you are staying, it wont use up many of your holiday hours
.

Can't say for sure but id imagine a Broadway show is just a higher standard than in London.
Only show i've seen in London is the Book of Mormon (which is amazing btw) and i watched a few videos of the american show and the 2 lead guys that were in that are now pretty big TV and film stars in America

Yeah I know mate would love to see NY in the snow. Been once in Jan on honeymoon but wasnt too cold. We went Niagara after and it was snowing with lows of -10. We hardly get any proper winters anymore so it makes a change

Supplementary question here.
A few people have said 'go and see a Broadway show'.
Had a look and an awful lot seem to be the same as ones on in London.
Is there any additional value going to one there that you could see here, or is it just to be able to tick 'seen a show on Broadway' off the list?
